In the fight against crime, local law enforcement officers are on the front lines.

In the Town of Denton, the professionals of the Police Department are tasked with the duty to protect and serve. The Denton Police Department is currently seeking high-caliber applicants for Police Officer positions.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid Drivers License
  • Successful graduate of BLET or prior LEO experience required

Town Manager-Denton, pop. 1910, Council/Manager form of government seeking qualified applicant reporting to Mayor & 5 Commissioners. Will be responsible for supervision and management of 28 employees & $2.5M budget. Departments include; water, sewer, streets, police and volunteer fire department.

Qualifications shall include minimum, BA/BS degree. Prefer MPA with experience in local government with knowledge of Federal, State, & local laws regarding operations of town government. Applicant must possess exceptional oral & written communication, leadership, organizational & strategic-thinking skills along with the ability to manage people and maintain effective working relationship with elected officials & citizens. The Manager’s Powers and Duties

 Pursuant to G.S. 160A-148 as follows:

 The Manager shall appoint and suspend or remove all city officers and employees not elected by the people, and whose appointment or removal is not otherwise provided for by law, except the city attorney, in accordance with general personnel rules, regulations, policies or ordinances as the council may adopt.

 The Manager shall direct and supervise the administration of all departments, offices, and agencies of the city, subject to the general direction and control of the council, except as otherwise provided by law.

 The Manager shall attend all meetings of the council and recommend any measures that he deems expedient.

 The Manager shall see that all laws of the State, the city charter, and the ordinances, resolutions and regulations of the council are faithfully executed within the city.

 The Manager shall prepare and submit the annual budget and capital program to the council.

 The Manager shall annually submit to the council and make available to the public a complete report on the finances and administrative activities of the city as of the end of the fiscal year.

 The Manager shall make any other reports that the council may require concerning the operations of city departments, offices and agencies subject to his direction and control.

 The Manager shall perform any other duties that may be required or authorized by the Council.

 Additional Town of Denton requirements as follows:

 The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the other governmental jurisdictions, the Town Council, elected and appointed officials, community groups, employees, and the general public.

 The ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

 Physical Requirements:

 Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, fingering, feeling, talking, seeing, and hearing.

Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift object.

 Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading, and perform visual inspections.

 Desirable Education and Experience:

 Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in public administration, business management, or related field and considerable supervisory experience at a management level with a public sector organization, preferably in a municipal environment, graduate degree in public administration or related field preferred: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Special Requirement:

 Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Prefer ICMA certification.

Residency – within a 15 mile radius and within 12 – 18 months after hire date.

 Essential Duties and Tasks:

 Works with the Mayor and Council to develop consensus on a clear vision of the future of the community and the organization: coordinates and works with the Mayor and Council on planning and policy development to put this vision into effect for Town services; develops agenda for Council meetings; and assures resources and supporting documentation for actions are present.

 Provides professional and technical advice to Council on policy, planning and legal matters; researches and makes recommendations to Council on new programs, services and initiatives.

 Coordinates and works with department heads in assuring policies, laws, and ordinances are workable, enforced and fairly implemented.

 Meets with and speaks with community groups, citizens, and other public agencies about specific programs, services policies, and other issues as needed; establishes and maintains effective communications with media to keep citizens informed about the Town’s programs and progress.

 Annual and other reviews:

 Employer and employee shall review and evaluate the performance of the Town Manager, and the provisions of this agreement minimally on an annual basis and initially the same to be conducted on a quarterly basis.
