TOWN OF DENTON JOBS CREATION PROGRAM

OCTOBER 2011

The Town of Denton announces a new program with Five Points to encourage the creation of jobs in Denton and the creation of business opportunity.

The Points are as follows:

  1. Any new business will receive a grant from the enterprise fund in an amount equal to three months of services including water provision, sewer, and trash–garbage pickup.  The purpose of this grant is to increase the enterprise fund by the attraction of new customers in the form of additional business and employees to utilize the utilities systems of the Town of Denton.  This program will be in effect until December 31, 2012, and the new business must be documented with a Federal Identification Number or an NC sales tax number.  The business must remain in existence for a period of twelve months from the time of the grant, or if sooner closed, the grant will be forfeited back to the enterprise fund.  This is limited to those new businesses within the town limits of the Town of Denton.

  1. Any business, whether an existing or new business, that adds a full time employee within the city limits will receive a grant in the amount of $250.00 per employee so hired.  Any business that hires a part-time employee of twenty hours or more will receive a $100.00 grant.  The baseline for new hire evaluation will be the number of employees as of October 1, 2011.  Applications for these grants must be made to the Town Clerk.  The employee positions thus created must remain filled for twelve months from the time of hire; in the event that the position is closed within twelve months, the grants are to be proportionately refunded.  This program shall be in effect through December 31, 2012.

  1. Any new business which commences in the Town of Denton before the deadline date of December 31, 2012 will receive a startup grant of $2,500.00 if the business employs a minimum of five full-time employees.  This is limited to those businesses within the town limits.  The employee positions thus created must remain filled for twelve months from the time of hire; in the event that the position is closed within twelve months, the grants are to be proportionately refunded.  The purpose of this grant is to increase employment opportunities for displaced workers and to increasing the tax base of the Town of Denton through new businesses and new wage earners and taxpayers.

  1. A grant will be awarded for the construction of each new residence or business building within the town limits for the next two years, in the amount equal to the prevailing charge for a water and sewer tap.  The baseline date for the award of this grant will be the completion of construction after October 1, 2011, and this program will conclude on September 30, 2013. The purpose of this grant is to grow the enterprise fund by the addition of new customers, both residential and business in the Town of Denton.

  1. To encourage Town revitalization, a fund of $10,000.00 will be created for the provision of grants to beautify the historic Town of Denton.  The grants will range in amounts from $500.00 to $1,000.00.  The grants will be awarded based on the improvement of appearance, signage, landscape, painting, and the like.  The period of this grant will be January 1, 2012 through March 1, 2012.  A grant committee will be established by the Board of Commissioners to consider and award these grants.

Public hearing required: For the first four points of the Town of Denton’s Five Point Jobs Plan, the Board of Commissioners will award the grants. In these cases, there will be a public hearing which will be advertised by the posting of a Notice at the Town Hall of the Town of Denton.  The beautification and revitalization grants set forth as the fifth Point will be awarded by the Committee to be established by the Board of Commissioners.
